This marks the gradual development of China's autonomous driving technology towards the mass production and application stage, and it is also an important milestone for BAIC Group to move from the technical verification stage to the mass production and application stage in the field of autonomous driving.

In June 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other four departments jointly released the list of the first batch of pilot consortiums for intelligent networked vehicle access and road traffic, and BAIC was shortlisted for the first batch of lists. Since then, BAIC has passed multiple rounds of testing, and finally stood out among many shortlisted companies, and was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for autonomous driving model product access licenses.

BAIC's declared model is the Polar Fox Alpha S (L3 version), which is equipped with 34 high-performance sensors, including 3 lidars. These sensors work together like keen "eyes" to achieve 360-degree environmental perception coverage around the vehicle, providing accurate and comprehensive environmental information for system decision-making. Jihu Alpha S (L3 version) draws on the mature and strict safety design concept in the aviation field, and realizes full-link security redundant backup in terms of perception, decision-making, steering, braking, communication, power supply, positioning, etc. During the verification process, Jihu Alpha S (L3 version) has undergone rigorous testing and testing, achieving full and complete coverage of scenarios within the design and operation range, fully proving the reliability and safety of its autonomous driving system, and providing industry practice for the mass production application of conditional autonomous driving.
